Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Licensing observed that the fire drill for December 2023 was not conducted and recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff conduct fire drills on a monthly basis

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: On review of five children's files, Licensing observed that all were missing enrolment dates.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 15 children and 2 staff present, which included the manager.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
The Licensee is required to address the contraventions to bring the facility back into compliance and provide a written response to Licensing by the date below.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was discussed:
- Active Play promotion and outdoor play
- Staffing requirements under Section 37
- Emergency evacuation plan to practice
- Licensing Duty line: #604 587 3936 for emergencies if area Licensing Officer can’t be contacted.
- Regular review of BCCDC website for COVID-19 updates (see link below)

The contents of this inspection report were reviewed with the facility manager but the report was written off site due to technical difficulties, therefore no signature was obtained. A copy of the report and risk assessment was later provided.
