Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
MEDICATION: 16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation: Emergency medication for a child expired at the end of November 2023.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure current emergency medication is provided for the child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 1/4 child has a parent as an emergency contact. Licensing explained that the emergency contact must be an individual that is not either parent.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure an emergency contact that is not the parent is listed in the child's file.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: No care plan was available for a child requiring emergency medication.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a care plan is created in collaboration with the parent relevant to the emergency medication.

Comments

At today’s inspection, there were 7 children, 1 staff, and the Manager present.

At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified and the Licensee is required to submit a compliance plan by the date below.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was discussed:
-Daily outdoor schedule and safety check
-System for documenting minor incidents and notification to parents
-Storage and laundering of nap time items
-System for checking expiry dates for emergency food supply
-Storing emergency supplies in a condenser manner
-Storage of cleaning supplies
-Diapering and hand washing practices
-Consent for applying diaper rash creams and going on community walks is available
-Parental consent available to apply Polysporin
