Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A record of monthly fire drills that have been practiced has not been kept. A staff created a record during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to keep a record respecting compliance with section 22(2)(b) and (c).

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19050 - CCLR s.56(1)(f) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
Observation: A staff explained that a log has been kept; however, was unable to locate the log for Licensing to review.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to maintain a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events that is available for Licensing to review.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Of the four children's records reviewed; two did not include immunization status.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to obtain immunization status for each child upon registration.

Comments

During this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The information contained in the report was discussed with a staff and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the manager.
