Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the metal plug prongs of the electrical cord (unplugged) of the children's light table was within reach of children in an area in the classroom where they would typically play and do activities. During the inspection, the manager corrected this by placing and storing the cord under the table.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children do not have access to any objects that may be hazardous to their health or safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated Oct. 13, 2022 there were 37 children and 12 staff present. The manager was also on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. The contravention noted in this report was reviewed with the manager during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Safety and maintenance of strollers
- Continue reportable incident procedures, which is to be reported within 24 hours. Child care staff are asked to call their Licensing Officer to make the report. If the Licensing Officer is unavailable, please call the Duty Line Licensing Officer
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Check the expiry date of items in the emergency supplies kit
- Care plan procedures
- Storing equipment outdoors
- Active supervision outdoors
- Continue checking the outdoor play area before children use the space
