Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.
This was a multi-day inspection that conducted on January 31, 2019 and Feb. 13, 2019.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: The following were observed on January 31, 2019 inspection day:
- A plastic bag under the sink in 30 months to school age classroom that was accessible to children.
- 3 pair of scissors were stored in a drawer in the preschool classroom that were accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to anything that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: On January 31, 2019, review of attendance records of preschool classroom observed that there were 14 children in attendance however, only 13 children were signed in at the time of inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure facility records are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Review of children records observed that one child was missing medical practitioner's name and contact number on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 31, 2019 there were 87 children in attendance and 17 staff members were working in the programs maintaining staff to child ratio is each classroom. Licensing reviewed the physical facility, programming and documentation systems for all classrooms, on the first day of inspection. Staff files and children files were reviewed on February 13, 2019.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The contraventions were corrected during inspection .
