Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: 5 staff files were reviewed; 1 staff CRC is not obtained.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff files are complete.

MEDICATION: 16030 - CCLR s.53(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Medication was accessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure medication is not accessible to any child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: Care plan not developed in consultation with the parent of the child requiring extra support.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all children files are complete.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 5 children and 4 staff present.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to address cited items to bring the facility in compliance. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.

-Water temperature
-Care and Supervision
-Care plan review dates
-Staff files
-Reportable Incident process, re: service delivery problem
-Emergency supplies, incl. first aid kit
