Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.
At today’s inspection there were 23 children and 6 staff present. The Manager was also on site.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation: One of the exits identified on the fire plan was blocked with a large stack of equipment and supplies. The manager explained that she was cleaning and temporarily stored these items in this location.
Corrective Action(s): The manager agreed to ensure that any exits identified on the fire plan are not blocked or hampered at any time while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a basket of diaper creams, potentially within the reach of children in the bathroom.The manager removed the diaper creams out of the reach of children during the inspection

MEDICATION: 16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation: Medication included in the child's care plan was not on site..
Corrective Action(s): The manager will be in contact with the child's parent to obtain the child's medication as per the child's care plan.

During this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
