Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PROGRAM: 18030 - CCLR s.44(1)(c) - A licensee must provide to children a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that (c) complies with the program standards set out in Schedule G.
Observation: Licensing observed that there was no programming evident - such as art, music/movement, etc. Manager stated that she sometimes does programming on special occasions and engages children in circle time.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee agreed to increase opportunities for programming as per schedule G.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 1 of 7 children's files reviewed, one child is missing their MSP #. Licensing discussed with the licensee to develop a system of following up with families with missing information and record that in the child's file.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee will ensure all files are up to date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: A child was not signed out on November 1, 2023.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee will ensure all children are signed in/out daily.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 1 of 7 children's files missing their medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee will ask parents for information on medical practitioner.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated November 27, 2023 there were five children in care with the Licensee. At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. This inspection report was completed off site, and a copy will be emailed to the manager on the same day.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.

- Importance of programming
- The emergency plan procedure was discussed
