Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: One staff has an RCMP criminal record check. The manager said a criminal record check has been applied for through the CRRA but has not been received yet.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a criminal record check issued through the CRRA is available for all staff when they start work.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: Although staff are aware of when medication needs to be administered, no care plan available for one child requiring extra support.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a care plan that includes the diagnosis and symptoms relevant to the child's requirement for extra support.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated October 6, 2022 there were 22 children and five staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and a copy provided.
The following recommendation was provided:
ยท The outside deck is starting to show signs of wear and tear. CCFL recommends that a maintenance plan is made and implemented to ensure the deck is kept in good condition.
