Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.
At today’s inspection there were 6 children in the care of the manager.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
- protruding screw ends under the stairs, accessible to children in an area where they play
- a hanging looped cord above the sandbox, accesssible to children which could pose a risk of entanglement
Corrective Action(s): The manager stated that these hazards will be removed.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
- change table beneath the diaper mat is visibly soiled
- damage to the wall behind the garbage can in the kitchen area; exposing drywall
- the drywall in an area below the stairs where children play is exposed/not finished
- areas around the three doors within the area of the home where children are cared for are visibly soiled
- sections of wooden deck railings in the outdoor play space are not secure
- sections of the wooden fence enclosing the outdoor play area are not secure
Corrective Action(s): The manager confirmed that these areas identified will be cleaned and/or repaired.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Six children were in attendance; however, two were not included on today's record of attendance.
Corrective Action(s): The manager corrected the attendance during the inspection.

During this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The following was discussed with the manager during the inspection:
- bottle feeding
- log book
The information contained in the report was discussed with the manager and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the facility.
