Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: One nap crib has a torn crib mattress which is not easy to clean.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all furniture is in good condition and easy to clean.

STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation: A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one employee. The Manger said she received a resume but forgot to print it.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a record of work history is obtained for all employees

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: One educator assistant certificate was not verified by the system maintained by early childhood educator registry
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that each educator or assistant certificate is verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 18, 2023 there were16 children, 2 staff, and 1 person living in the home present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Active Supervision
· Valid CRC are available, reviewed expiry dates
