Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: A medication form was present with the times to be given "as needed" it was discussed that it would need to be a specific time or specific symptoms to direct staff when to give the medicine.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the medicine is given at the time specified or with the symptoms specified by the child's parent, in the child's record or care plan.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated February 2, 2022 there were 2 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee will provide a written response to the Licensing Officer and the Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
