Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11032 - CCLR s.13(3)(c) - A licensee must ensure that, on the premise of the community care facility or in any vehicle used by employees to transport children, (c) no one grows or stores cannabis, except medical cannabis.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing observed a strong odor of cannabis. The Licensee confirmed that cannabis is stored on the premise of the facility, located on the upper level away from the child care program. The Licensee explained that she was unaware that cannabis cannot be stored on the premise.
Corrective Action(s): The Licensee explained that cannabis will no longer be stored on the premise of the community care facility.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Upon inspection, Licensing found that there are no emergency supplies available.
Corrective Action(s): The Licensee explained that she will put emergency supplies together.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 2, 2024 there were 5 children and The Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee/Manager to provide Licensing with a written response with actions taken to bring facility into compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool will be completed and a copy will be provided.
