Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed:
-Four electrical outlets were missing. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CBJVPR. This was corrected during the inspection.
- A staff purse was within easy reach of the children. This could cause a potential hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BSCV6Y
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation: One of the exit doors was partially blocked with three large bins filled with emergency supplies. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BSCV6Y
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure supplies and equipment do not block an exit to ensure a safe exit in the possibility of an emergency.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Four staff records were reviewed. One staff record was missing a site specific criminal record check (CRC).
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff CRC's are site specific.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 3, 2023 there were 38 children, 6 staff, and the Manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by February 17, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure. Forms and the bulletin were given
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water
-Adding a CPR mask to the first kit
-Adding diapers to the emergency supplies. This was completed during the inspection.
