Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Review of 6 staff files found 1 had an expired Criminal Record Check. Manager said it had been applied for but they have not received anything to date. Manager will ensure staff does not work alone and will update Licensing on the progress of the renewal.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a system is in place to renew Criminal Record Checks through the Criminal Record Review Board.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Review of 11 children's files found 1 missing the medial insurance plan number.
Corrective Action(s): Please obtain and keep a record of the medical insurance plan number for each child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Review of 11 children's files found 1 missing the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Please obtain and record the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner for each child.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 22, 2022 there were 78 children, 21 staff, 1 support worker and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection and the risk assessment were written off site and a copy was emailed to the facility.


The following education/recommendations were provided:

- Safe storage spaces.
- Parents may provide a walk-in clinic.
- Recording last date child attended.
