Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the inspection Licensing observed the following in the washroom of the facility:
-the tap is cracked
-the paint on the floor was chipped


Licensing observed the following outside the facility in the play area:
-the paint on the wall is chipped
-the wooden bench is cracked and the wood is lifting


Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed:
-toilet bowl cleaner was under the sink in the washroom. This could cause a potential poising hazard. Please complete by May 8th, 2019
-A knife and exacto knife were within easy reach on the counter. This could cause a potential cutting hazard. Please complete by May 8th, 2019
-Several cans of spray paint were in an open cupboard at children's level. This could cause a potential blinding or poisoning hazard. The manager will remove spray cans a get a lock for the cupboard. Please complete by May 8th, 2019
-the fixtures attatching the outdoor fence to the wall are rusty. This could cause a potential health hazard. The Manager and I discussed this concern and the teachers will practice active supervision in the outdoor play area and encourage the children to not play near the fencing until it is repaired.
-in the washroom the overflow drain for the sink is rusty and sharp. This could cause a potential health hazard. The Manager will use tape to temporarily fix the drain until it can be repaired.

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During the inspection 10 children's records of 54 were reviewed. Two children were missing their date of enrolment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's records are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated May 8, 2019 there were 43 children and 8 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please ensure a written response is submitted to licensing by May 28, 2019 addressing the above noted contraventions. This inspection was completed on May 8, 2019 and the report was reviewed with the Manager prior to signing on May 14, 2019. Thank you for your time. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Education provided:
-Please add more items to your emergency evacuation supplies. Licensing recommends sufficient supplies for a duration of 72 hours.
