Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:
Licensing
Physical Facility
Staffing
Policies and Procedures
Care and supervision/Hygiene and medication
Nutrition
Program
Child Records and reporting

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided to the facility.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SREL-AV6PXT have been corrected except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed the Licensee clean the lunch table with a bleach and water solution while the children were sitting around it. The children are breathing in the fumes of the solution.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure sanitizing is done prior to the children having access to the space in which is being sanitized.

Comments

On site today was the Licensee with 7 children.
Discussions with the Licensee:-
- Active supervision particularly during lunchtime
- Rug corners are curling - concern for tripping. Discussed replacement
- Active Play during programming
- Temporary placements requiring inspection
- Lead in drinking water – a reminder to flush pipes
- Reportable Incident reporting to Duty line: #604 587 3936 for emergencies if area Licensing Officer can’t be contacted.
- Bill 5 awareness

Facility has been receiving bulletins and updates by email from Licensing.
