Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following was observed:
- a green watering hose was loose in the corner of the undercover area.
- a ceiling panel was placed against the wall in the undercover area and it was disintegrating. It was covered by water and it appeared to be moldy.
- standing water in the infant toddler playhouse. No children were observed playing in the infant toddler playground.
- the play house in the 3-5 playground had a few planks missing on the roof and at the bottom. Manager said that the playhouse will be removed and that they are looking to replace it.
- the infant toddler playground was covered with leaves and it was slippery. Staff said that they re not presently using the playground as it is slippery and unsafe for the young children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

Comments

At the inspection dated December 14, 2023 there were 41 children, 13 staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified . Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Licensing observed that the bedding in one of the classrooms was touching. It was discussed that the bedding should not touch as it promotes cross contamination. it was discussed that teh bedding should be stored in a way that does not touch.
