Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care and services were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The outdoor play area has a sloped area and is muddy and slippery, there is also water that is puddling in parts of the outdoor play space and areas where the children come off the slide. The slippery areas and the puddling water poses the risk of injury to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the outdoor play area is healthy and safe for the children in care. Provide licensing with a plan of how this will be addressed.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 25, 2024 there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. This inspection and the risk assessment were written on site and reviewed with the Manager, a copy was provided via email.


The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Reportable Incident online reporting.
- Sanitizing and bleach solution.
- Criminal record checks renewal.
- Emergency contacts other than child’s parents.
- Walk in clinics are acceptable if a family doctor is not available.
- Use of the nap room .
