Introduction

An unscheduled first routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 5 children's files were reviewed of which 2 were missing an MSP number
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are accurate and up to date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: 5 children's files were reviewed of which 2 were missing a start date
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are accurate and up to date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 5 childrens files were reviewed of which the following were missing:
- 3 files missing the name and phone number of a medial practitioner
- 2 files missing an emergency contact
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children files are complete and up to date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: Licensee shared that she has no photograph or digital image of any child in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please enusre, for each child, a photograph or digital image is kept on record so it can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation: 5 children's files were reviewed of which 2 files were missing consent for medical attention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all childrens files are complete and up to date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: Licensing observed that a child in care requires extra support with medication, however, a care plan is not available.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children requiring extra support in the program have a care plan in place, discussed with the family, and signed off by a parent.

Comments

At the inspection on February 3, 2022 there were 6 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.

Education Provided:
-ensuring that anything with a DIN number is removed from the first aid kit or labelled 'for staff use only' unless permission is obtained from families.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed off site and a copy was provided.
