Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): At the time of this inspection access to the emergency supplies was partially blocked.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure access to emergency supplies is not blocked.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 11, 2020 there were 6 children and 2 staff present. Staff to child ratio's and staff qualifications were met at the time of this inspection. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee are included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. This inspection report was signed on February 12, 2020 and the findings noted in this report were verbally discussed and reviewed with the Manager on February 11, 2020.
Care Plans
Licensing discussed with the Manager situations where a care plan may be needed. A random review of children's records indicated one where a medical condition was indicated. Manager informed that this information may no longer be relevant and has not been an issue at Promontory Hummingbird. Manager to discuss with the parent and update the information as needed.
On Day Two of this inspection, the Manager informed Licensing that she had discussion with the parent and will update the information on the registration.
Day Two Inspection of Group School-Age program
Records were reviewed. Walk through completed.
First Aid Kit
A method to cleanse around a wound area was discussed. Soapy water is recommended.
Emergency Supplies
Discussed obtaining a method to make transport of emergency supplies easier for staff. For example, a wheeled container.
