Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance. The facility manager was present for the inspection.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #JCHE-AMMN8Y have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Cabinet located within the GCC ( 30 mos - school-age ) program is detached form it's hinges requiring repair.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure equipment and furniture is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Observed 2 exposed electrical outlets , plastic bags, electrical cords and ( placement of fans located within the nap area ) discussed the risks associated with these items if accessed by children.
a metal pipe is stored behind an outside bench protruding up which may result in injury should a child or staff lean against it.
It is noted that children were supervised at all times throughout today's inspection.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure children do not have access to any object which may pose a health and or safety risk.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated Jan 21, 2019 there were 22 children and 6 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Facility Manager to provide a written response to the assigned Licensing Officer for this facility at the agreed upon date.
Children observed during lunch , outdoor play periods and in transition to nap time. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
Ø Promoting Active Play in the program - Active Play and Screen Time Policies complete, the facility does not implement screen time into programming.
Ø Temporary Placements - there are no Temporary placement in place at this time.
Ø Active Supervision - reviewed the resource provided , good level of ongoing supervision observed throughout today's inspection.
