Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following with the Licensee:
- Due to window installations within the premise, the plastic lining, gyprock and dust on the window sills were accessible to the children.
- Naproom's carpet needs good cleaning (to remove several stains) and to ensure that end/edges of the carpet does not pose tripping hazard.
- Heavy resources were stored on top of a playhouse; this is a fall hazard ( CORRECTED ON SITE)
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a safe and healthy environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: Infant/Toddler Ratio - Staff to Child ratio not maintained (IT/ECE/ASST).
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that staff:child ratio is maintained at all times as per Sch. E of the CCLR.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 1 child was not signed in this morning.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all children's files are complete.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 9 children, 3 staff and the Licensee present.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to address cited items to bring the facility in compliance and submit the written response by below date. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.

-Programming ( Schedule G)
-Physical Facility, i.e. natural light
-Fridge Temperature (thermometer)
-Exemption
-Equipment, i.e. outdoor play toys
