Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Fire drill records were not available for review for licensing. Licensee stated that they use a computer for keeping records and that computer is not available on site to pull the records.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure records are complete and on accessible for licensing staff to review

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Review of 5 children files noted one child was missing medical insurance number on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children files are complete

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Attendance records were not available for licensing to review as the device for keeping records was not accessible for review. Licensing discussed the importance of keeping the attendance with the licensee in case of emergency use. There was no evidence of children in attendance during inspection time
Corrective Action(s): Ensure daily attendance records are maintained with arrival and departure time for each child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Review of 5 children files observed one chid was missing medical practitioner's name and phone number on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 19, 2019 there were 5 children present with the licensee. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following were discussed;
- Trampoline use policy is in place
- There is a portable pool in the back yard that was empty. Licensee stated that the pool is for family use on the weekend when children are not in care.
- A Propane tank was outside in the back yard but children were not outside at that time. Licensee stated that they will store the propane tank in a manner that it is inaccessible to children.
A response in writing is required to be submitted to Licensing by the date below, outlining how the contravention(s) have been addressed.
