Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: During the routine inspection it was noted that one staff's file was missing the validation of the ECE certificate. Education was provided regarding how to validate the ECE certificate.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff files are completed.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 16, 2023 there were 0 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
· A conversation was had about having a pet policy for the pet that is presently residing in the upstairs part of the facility.
· A conversation was had regarding the revision of Policies and Procedures; informing the parents of the revision and revising policies to reflect current practice.
· A conversation was had regarding the end date on children's files who no longer are attending the facility.
· A conversation was had regarding care plans, their use and being created in collaboration with the parents.
· A conversation was had about the manager's name being on display in a prominent location.
· Licensing recommended that the log book of minor incident be a bounded book to maintain the integrity of the information in the book.
· A conversation was had regarding the medicated wipes in the First Aid Kit and their use with parent permission only.
· Education was provided regarding Reportable Incidents (when to report, what to report, how to report).
