Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: Licensing observed that not all staff certificates were prominently posted. Discussed with the new manager.
Corrective Action(s): Certificates of all certified staff will be posted in respective programs

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Licensing observed that the emergency drill has not been practiced by staff - further discussed regarding the intent of this piece of legislation
Corrective Action(s): Manager will provide a corrective action plan by the date below.

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 14 children and 4 staff present as well as the manager.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
The Licensee is required to address the contraventions to bring the facility back into compliance and provide a written response to Licensing by the date below.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following was discussed:
- Valid CRC/s are available and reviewed expiry dates.
- New manager name to be posted
- Active Play promotion and outdoor play
- Hygiene and sanitization practices
- Exemptions requirements
- Emergency evacuation plan
- Incident reporting
- Licensing Duty line: #604 587 3936 for emergencies if area Licensing Officer can’t be contacted.
- Regular review of BCCDC website for COVID-19 updates (see link below)
