Introduction

An unscheduled first routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following with Manager:
- washroom wallpaper started to rip
- wooden fence has a small gap with several nails sticking out
- wooden planter within the playground poses tripping hazard
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided to children at all times

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Criminal Record Check on file for 1 staff is not site specific.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff files are complete.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following:
- June, July, Aug and Dec 2022 fire drills were conducted but recorded.
- Yearly emergency drill was completed in Oct 2022 but not recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that monthly fire drills and yearly emergency drill is accurately recorded.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 34 children and 11 staff present. The Manager was onsite and assisted LO with today's inspection.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to address cited items to bring the facility in compliance and submit the written response by below date. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.

The following were discussed:
-Emergency drills
-Staffing plan, i.e. extra support staff
-Fridge temperature
-Resilient ground surface, i.e. woodchips
-Children's records, i.e. attendance sign in/out
