Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection, the following were observed:
- One classroom had the mats stored with the bedsheets on and were on top of each other, and the bedsheets were touching
- One classroom had only one spray bottle which was used to clean both the washroom and the tables in the classroom
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Bedsheets should not be touching when stored, and have two separate spray bottles for the bathroom and for the classroom for cleaning and sanitation. These spray bottles should also be labelled.

Comments

At the inspection dated Dec. 05, 2022 there were 96 children and 27 staff present. The manager was also on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility manager during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H and staff to initial after each documentation
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Continue to check the outdoor playground area before children use the space
