Introduction

A scheduled follow up inspection was conducted to assess contraventions noted on follow up inspection #WBET-CUZNRH.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The temperature of the fridge in the infant/toddler program was -10c. Staff have been recording this fridge temperature since August and temperatures of between -1c and -10c are consistently being recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fridge temperature is between 0-4c.

STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Evidence of reference checks was not available for one casual staff member.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure evidence of reference checks is available for all staff. The Licensee contact stated this staff will not work until references are at the facility.

STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one staff member.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a resume is available for all staff. The Licensee Contact stated this staff member will not work until a resume is at the facility.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19230 - CCLR s.58(1)(c)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (c) the resources to be made available to the child requiring extra support by the licensee, including (i) any adaptation of the community care facility necessary to ensure the child's safety or comfort.
Observation: Medication identified in a child's care plan expired in February 2023.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all medications have a current expiry date.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 16, 2023 there were 32 children and seven staff present.. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. This report was reviewed with the Licensee Contact and copy provided by email.

The following were discussed:
If a family brings medication to the centre for a child staff need to check the medication to ensure it has a current expiry date.
Having a checklist on staff files to ensure all of the required documentation is present.
