Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DoLSoP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-Storage shelf which was not secured to the wall in the downstairs active play area.
-The upstairs bathroom drawer and one cabinet in the kitchen had plastic bags. The cabinets were unlatched. (Corrected during the inspection)
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed a broken window that was in reach of children in outdoor area. Licensee addressed the window with a piece of cardboard cover, after licensing brought this to the licensee's attention. Licensee said they will have the broken window repaired by June 12,2023 and repair it over the weekend when children are not in attendance.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety to the children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: Licensee reviewed children's records for 9 children, however, some of the other children who had recently withdrawn from the program had no records available on site. In addition, the attendance records were unavailable prior to June 1. The licensee said they keep records off site.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep records in a single place at the community care facility referred to in section 56 to 58.

Summary of Inspection:
· During today’s inspection, there were 7 children, 1 staff and the licensee present.
· At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
· Having files available and accessible for review during inspection
· Discussed active supervision for children.
· Annual evacuation plan documented.
