Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Manager's name was not posted near the licence.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: At the time of inspection a copy of staff certification was not posted.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Review of 2 staff files. One file did not contain the verification of certification. Licensing reviewed the process with the staff during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure not to employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under division 2 which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

Summary of Inspection:.
During today’s inspection, there were 7 children, 1 staff on site
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Education provided to staff regarding the times children arrive and depart the preschool program each day.
Discussed and reviewed the verification of certification process
