Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-In the fridge where children's food was stored, there was two paint rollers stored, partially inside a plastic bag. This was removed during inspection.
-Two change pads had visible chips in the surface preventing effective sanitizing.
-The vinyl climber located in the infant room had holes exposing the foam below, preventing effective sanitizing.
-Wall in the GCC (30 months to sac) nap room had chips, exposing drywall below, near where a child naps, and would have access to the drywall. Licensee said she was aware of the damage, and was going to have this fixed.

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 15 children's files. One file did not contain written consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain in writing from a parent consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot be immediately reached.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 39 children, 10 staff, 2 students and the manager on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
During inspection licensing discussed providing more details in care plans which may require urgent responses in the event of an allergic reaction.
Review of the emergency evacuation kits. Licensee has more items on order, as some will be expiring in the coming year.
