Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 4 staff files, of those 1 did not contain record that the person has complied with the province's immunization control programs.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that staff have record that they have complied with the province's immunization control program.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Licensing reviewed 4 staff files, two of ECE certificates had no record of being verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to verify ECE and ECEA certificates by a system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
· During today’s inspection, there were 17 children, the manager, and one staff.
· At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following Education was discussed:
· Care plans
· Minor incident log book
· Documenting most recent fire drill which was completed in partnership with the school
· Keeping record of references having been checked prior to the start of employment in addition to a copy of the letter provided.
