Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A container of cleaning solution was accessible to children in the Toddler Room.
Corrective Action(s): The container was removed during this inspection.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: Medication was at the facility for one child although no care plan available for a the child requiring extra support.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a current care plan is available for all children requiring extra support.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19380 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Medication required for a child who needs extra support is not in the original container and does not have any information identifying the child it is intended for.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all medications have a doctor prescribed label.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated September 15, 2021 there were 22 children and six staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the Licensee Contact and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the Licensee Contact.
The following were discussed:
Ensuring all facility Covid-19 policies are being followed.
Ensuring perishable food items form children's lunch boxes are stored in the fridge after morning snack.
Having a copy of the facility licence in both programs.
