Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Audit of 6 staff files revealed 4 staff missing Criminal Record Checks completed through the CRRP; Community Police/RCMP checks are present
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times, and prior to employment

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15050 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Walk through of one washroom revealed the storage of eating utensils under the diaper change area
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure items are stored in a way to ensure the health, safety and dignity is maintained at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Audit of 8 children's files, one file missing emergency contact; Licensee has made note of attempts to obtain this information.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

Comments

At the inspection dated October 25, 2022 there were 15 children and 6 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed on site, and the Licensee/Manager was provided a copy.
