Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

A JIBC student was present during the routine inspection for training purposes.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The Fire extinguishers have not been serviced within the last year.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14360 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: It was observed that there were 4 children under the age of 36 months in the program August 27, 2021.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that no more than 3 children under 36 months is cared for at a time.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated August 28, 2021 there were 6 children, 1 staff and 3 people living in the home present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Active Supervision
