308 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not in good working order [s. 16(b)]
Observation: A) Noted paper towel for hand sink on the counter. Paper towel dispenser was not working. Staff said it is broken (ie. replacing battery is not effective) and is being replaced with a non automatic type.
B) Noted prep cooler was at 10C at time of inspection but only had non perishable items stored in it (ie. not opened cartons of almond milk, oats, shredded coconuts..etc). Staff member said that they go through the opened cartons of almond milk within two hours, but if they do not they can store it in the back cooler. All fruits/veggie for juicing are whole and are stored in the back cooler. All fruits/veggie for smoothies are preportioned and stored in the back freezer.
Corrective Action(s): A) Have paper towel dispenser repaired/replaced
B) Have prep cooler unit repaired/replaced so it is capable of maintaining 4C or less.

Comments

Hand wash station was fully equipped with soap, paper towel (see violation code 308 re: dispenser), hot and cold running water.
**Note: Kangen water device does not appear to affect staff ability to wash hands.
All coolers in use (ie. upright one door cooler and display case cooler) were at 4C or less. (see violation code 308 re: prep cooler).
Freezers less than -18C.
Premises makes smoothies and juices on site and sells premade meals. No premade meals available at time of inspection but confirmed that the supplier has not changed (Pret A Mon'ger Kitchen, Vancouver).
Good general sanitation.No obvious sign of pest activity noted at time of inspection
Ice machine appeared clean with scoop for ice stored outside of the ice in a separate container.
Quat sanitizer concentrate dispensed from source then diluted with water. Quat sanitizer in sink and container with cloths submgered 200ppm. **Test strips are on order**
Manual ware washing procedures reviewed at time of inspection – no concerns.
Staff said juicer is taken a part and fully cleaned/sanitized at least every 4 hours as well as the smoothie jugs.
All foods appeared protected (ie. covered, stored off the ground...etc)
Foodsafe trained staff on duty.
