Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During a walk through of the child care facility, the following hazards were noted to be accessible to children in care: Adult scissors located in a drawer in the ASC space; toilet brushes and plungers in all washrooms.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure these items are removed or secured to prevent access to children in care.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Review of attendance records showed children's names with no indication of attendance or absence
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's attendance or absence is recorded daily

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Audit of 10 children's file revealed one file missing Medical Practioner contact information
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all required documentation is obtained and maintained

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Audit of 10 children's files revealed one child missing individual photos
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure consistent practise when implementing a system for individual photos

Comments

At the inspection dated March 29, 2019 there were 8 children and 4 staff present.
Coded violations were noted during today's inspection; please provide Licensing with a written response by April 5, 2019 as to how the coded violations have been suitably addressed.

The play space away from the facility was inspected this morning, prior to LO arrival to facility. No concerns were noted during the walk through.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Lead in the Water
