Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the walk through of the main play area it was noted that the food tables were not cleaned after eating, unfinished food was left on the table, dirty cups and food waste was stacked on a book shelf
Corrective Action(s): Manager states they will ensure tables are cleaned and dishes removed after snack and lunch times

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11130 - CCLR s.15(3) - A licensee providing a care program to any child younger than 36 months of age must provide a separate sleeping area located away from any activity area.
Observation: During the walk through of the indoor space, the Manager stated that the nap room that was previously approved during the intial stage is no longer present and available at all times
Corrective Action(s): Manager states that another room will be converted back to a nap room and will be available to all children under the age of 36 months

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15015 - CCLR s.14(4)(b) - A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (b) a wash basin.
Observation: Upon entering the indoors it was noted that the diaper changing takes place in what was the dining room/eating area for children in care. Although eating takes place in another area of the facility, diaper changing is required to be next to a wash basin.
Corrective Action(s): Manager states they will move the diaper change pad to the bathroom like previously approved when necessary

At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed and provided to the Licensee and/or Manager while on site.
