Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12180 - CCLR s.22(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was noted that two fire extinguishers that should have been serviced on January 12, 2023 have not been serviced this calendar year.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During the routine inspection 7 children's files were reviewed and all 7 children's files did not have an enrollment date.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete. This is a repeat contravention from 2022.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 15, 2023 there were 10 children and 2 parents and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· A conversation was had with the staff regarding emergency evacuation drills. Education was provided regarding the emergency evacuation. A conversation was had regarding evacuation practice with the emergency supplies. It was advised that a system be put in place to address the removal of emergency supplies during an emergency evacuation.
· A conversation was had regarding the parent's role in the preschool and any qualifications that they may need to have on file.
· A conversation was had regarding the the attendance records having only arrival times and not departure times of children's in care.
· Lead in the Water
