Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Areas of paint have been chipped away exposing drywall throughout the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure drywall is not accessible to children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19260 - CCLR s.58(2)(b) - The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: One care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all care plans are reviewed annually.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated August 22, 2023 there were nine children and three staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and a copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
The following were discussed:
An area of the outdoor play area is under repair and inaccessible to children. CCFL asked the manager to provide an update on when the repairs will be completed,
Areas throughout the facility have faded/peeling paint (eg baseboards). It is recommended that a maintenance plan is put into place which includes repainting.
