Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Door to furnace room was accessible
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all hazard areas are secured at all times when children in care

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During a walk through of the indoor space the following items were noted to present a falling risk in the event of an earthquake:
Filing cabinet and computer printer in the main play area
Fan, space heater and other items locate on shelf in nap room
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all hazards are removed or secured

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Audit of Fire Drill recording system shows fire drills have not been practised and recorded since March 2019. Fire Drills must be practised and recorded monthly
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure fire drills are practised and recorded daily

Comments

At the inspection dated July 15, 2019 there were 5 children and 1 staff present.
Coded violations were noted during today's inspection; please ensure all coded violations have been suitably addressed. Please provide a written response by July 22, 2019 as to how the coded violations have been addressed.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Lead in the Water

The following resources were provided:
· Reportable Incident Bulletin
· Reportable incident forms
· Active Supervision
