Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Nutrition and Food Services

· Records and Reporting
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10040 - CCALA s.7(1)(c) - A licensee must do all of the following: (c) display the licence in the prescribed manner.
Observation: During inspection time licensing staff noted that Community Care Licence was not posted or displayed in the facility. It was stored in a cupboard. Manager stated that the facility was painted in September and they forgot to put it back on the wall visible for public.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that facility licence is displayed in the prescribed manner.
Date to be Corrected: Corrected during inspection time.

LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: Licensing notes all staff certificates were not posted as facility was painted in September and there were some staff changes took place recently. Manager will be posting copies of all staff licences in a prominent place.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff certificates are posted/displayed in a prominent place in the facility.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: Licensing notes a loose electric cord on the floor in the play room posing a tripping hazard. Manager stated that it is normally not there, staff had put it out to get an activity for circle time. Manager immediately removed it form the area as circle time was not starting yet.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure play area is free of any hazards to protect the health and safety of children in care.
