Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #JCHE-AL6NGB have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During a walk through of the child care facility, it was noted that a large shelving unit is located across from the toilet and is not secured to prevent it from falling in the event of an earthquake
Corrective Action(s): Please remove or secure shelving unit

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: During the review of the Fire Drill records, it was noted that no fire drills were recorded for the months of October or November. Manager states they were practised just not recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure fire drills are practised and recorded monthly

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During the review of attendance records, it was noted that one day all children were signed in to care, however no sign out time was present
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children are signed in, out or marked absent daily

Comments

A tour of the upper level of the home that is not accessible to the children in care was provided to Licensing by the Licensee/Manager today.

At the inspection dated Dec 5, 2018 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified . Please provide Licensing with a written response by December 19, 2018 indicating how the contraventions have been addressed.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
