Introduction

An uscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation:
-The bathroom floor had a piece of the linoleum floor missing. The Licensee stated the floors will be replaced shortly.
-The toilet was recently replaced, however, it was propped-up on wood boards that stuck out from under the base of the toilet.
-Hair, small pieces of toilet paper and dust had accumulated around the floor near the toilet.
-Several areas on the walls and door frames throughout the facility appeared to be in the process of repair with spackle, however the patches had some crumbling with chips.
Corrective Action(s): Please submit a sufficient plan for completion of the bathroom and wall repairs, to ensure the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION):
-A monitor in the nap space had a chord that was not plugged-in and accessible where children sleep (Removed during inspection).
-The electrical outlet was missing a cover (Covered during inspection).
-Outdoors there was a small pile of wood covered in a tarp with large broken cement blocks on the top, which could easily fall on a child if pulled (Removed during inspection).
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Summary of Inspection:
The COVID-19 Pre-screening was conducted at the door.
During today’s inspection, the facility was open and operation. There were 0 children, the facility manger was present, and awaiting the arrival of children.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Licensing reminded the Licensee of the requirement of informing licensing of structural changes or repairs prior to commencement.
RCMP Criminal Record Checks(CRC) are insufficient. A CRC must be done through Criminal Records Review program.
