At the inspection dated August 29 there were 41 children, 9 staff and the manager present. At this inspection there were no contraventions identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
Licensing was on site on August 28 and inspected the facility. All care categories were reviewed for compliance except the staff files and children's files as they were under lock. Licensing returned to the facility for a multi-day inspection on August 29, 2023 to review the children's files, staff files and discuss the inspection report with the manager.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Licensing recommends that the manager initials and dates on the references of staff as to identify that they have been reviewed and verified.
- Licensing recommends that the entries in the Minor Incident log book/ communication book are factual (what you see and hear) regarding minor incidents that occur in the facility.
- Licensing recommends that gender of children be added on the Emergency Care Card. Gender was observed as being present on the registration forms.
- Licensing recommends that the last day of children being in care is added to children who have left the facility and no longer attending. Manager said that they will add the date at the back of the child's file.
- Licensing recommends that the person who is transporting children to and from school has a driver's abstract on file to prove a clean record of driving.
The following conversation was had with the manager:
- Licensing observed that in the SA/Preschool classroom there is only one toilet with a maximum capacity of 19 children. A separate bathroom is available for the children in class to use. The bathroom is located to the left of the classroom (out side of the classroom). A bathroom supervision was requested to be submitted to licensing via email.
- Licensing observed that in the 3-5 classroom (maximum capacity 25 children) there were 2 toilets and 2 sinks. Another bathroom to accommodate the children in the 3-5 classroom is located outside of the 3-5 room, at the back of the building. A bathroom supervision was requested to be submitted to licensing via mail.
- Licensing observed that in the IT B room (toddler classroom) one child (2.8 years of age) was sitting in a high chair and eating. In the IT B room there was a table with 4 chairs available to the children in care but the table and chairs was not observed as being in use by the children. Licensing recommends that children who are transitioning to the 3-5 classroom use age appropriate chair and table. Licensing inspected the chair for age and weight of the children using the high chair, but none was available. Manager is to provide more information regarding the high chairs.
