Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The following was observed in the outdoor play area of the facility:
-Peeling paint on the fence. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BVBNX8 and #CLAN-CBPVB4
The following was observed inside the facility:
-Chairs had signs of wear and peeling paint. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BVBNX8 and #CLAN-CBPVB4
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility furniture and equipment and fixtures are in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed the following:
-A bottle of vitamins under the sink. A lock was present but not applied. This was corrected during the inspection
-Plastic bags were accessible to children in the washroom
-A bottle of bleach and water was located at the children's level
-Several diaper cream containers were in an unlocked cupboard located at the children's level
-Several packets of toilet bowl freshener were in a drawer that was accessible to children. This was corrected during the inspection
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 25, 2023 there were 6 children, and 2 staff were present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by February 8, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water
-Having sufficient emergency supplies

The following was recommended:
-A covered garbage can in the washroom

The inspection findings were reviewed with a staff at the inspection as the Manager was not present. A copy of these documents were sent to the Manager. If you have any questions regarding this report please contact me.
