Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following was observed:
- the hot tub in the back yard had standing water in it and it was uncovered on one side
- there were 4 semicircle tubes with raised tubes attached with standing water in the tubes
- the trampoline had a space measuring 1.5 feet deep and 1 foot wide and it was accessible to the children
- 3 kebab metal sticks were in reach of the children on the BBQ
- the BBQ was uncovered and easily accessible to children
- a few planks on the porch were rotting and a hole on the porch was covered by a bucket
- a white fence with 4 inches slots was moving and in disrepair
- black berry bushes were coming through the fence and into the yard
- a standing kids pool had standing water in it
Corrective Action(s): The manager said that they will adress all the itmes in due time.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing measured the water temperature and it measured 60 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Manager said they will address the hot water immediately.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing reviewed two staff files and one staff file was missing the validation of their ECE certificate.
Corrective Action(s): Manager said they will validate the ECE certificate.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 04, 2024 there were 4 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The licensee is required to address the contraventions, bring the facility into compliance, and provide a written response to Licensing by the date written below. Licensing will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
