Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Licensing observed that three staff files were missing the certificate validation record. This is a repeat contravention and was identified on 17/Mar/2023 on inspection report #MZIN-CPZTBV.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all certificates are validated and kept on-site

Comments

At the inspection dated Feb. 26, 2024 there were 38 children and 10 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contravention noted in this report was reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H and staff to initial and write the date after each documentation
- Continue to constantly review facility policies
- Maintenance of the premises
- Active supervision inside and out
- Documents and files procedure
- Care plans
