Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following items require addressing to ensure the health and safety of the children when accessing the outside play space:
-Branches hanging low over the walkway making it difficult to get around, and could harm a child in the face
-Additional resilient surfacing is required under the swings, and the slide; please refer to the Director of Licensing Standard of Practise for Safe Play space regarding depth of resiliant surfacing
-Climbing dome which exceeds 3 feet in height must be located on resilient surfacing, and must not be used for toddlers.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Audit of 6 children's files revealed 2 files are missing medical insurance plan number
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: Audit of 6 children's files revealed 2 missing start/enrolment date
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Individual log books are present, which indicates attendance however there is no record of arrival/departure times or absences
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Audit of 6 children's files revealed 1 file is missing medical practitioner telephone number
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

Comments

At the inspection dated June 23, 2023 there were 7 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed and provided to the Licensee and/or Manager while on site.
